None of that happened.
We should have known!
30 minutes into our departure from Seattle our air conditioning stopped working. We thought this was odd, we really did, but we also figured, oh well, we'll get the AC fixed in Missoula or something. We checked to make sure that the car wasn't overheating - it was not.
Fast forward to two hours later. Harper has been unable to sleep because it is SO hot. It is about 90 outside and while we are going 73 miles an hour and the windows are OPEN (so much for small talk) he is still panting in the back seat.
Suddenly Tom says, "WOAH!" and I look down from the driver's seat. The car is at the highest temperature possible. The car (I thought) was in the process of getting ready to overheat and blow up. We slowed down to 60 and pulled off exit 169 of I-90. There was some definite clunk clunk clunking as we pulled to the stop sign. Tom said, "KEEP GOING!" and I turned left and drove a minute and pulled into a open lot of a farm type thing.
There was a house next door, so Tom went over to see if they could give us some water. We needed water because when we popped the hood STEAM came out. He got close to their house and I could hear their dogs barking. He put his arms in the air to calm? the dogs but they kept barking. The woman came out and apparently she told him to stay where he was because one of the dogs was a "biter".
The woman and her husband/boyfriend brought some water over. He was gung ho about fixing the car and we were hoping for a fix. We popped the hood to let it cool off and he went off to get his toolbox. For about an hour or so he and Tom attempted to get the fan belt back on in the correct way. They were VERY close, I mean like 1 inch away close. At the point of giving up the AAA tow truck showed up.
Harper had to stay in our car and be towed. Of course he got into the driver's seat and sat there like he was driving. We were towed maybe 5-10 miles to the official town of Moses Lake. Funny because we were actually going to stop there to let Harper swim, that is before the car broke down.
The Affordable Auto Care is catty-corner to the Super-8. It is also next to a Motel 6 and some other non-chain motels. We went for the Super-8. It smells funky but it's clean. Harper was exhausted and immediately passed out. We ate our homemade egg salad sandwiches and watched some Devil Wears Prada on tv.
Moses Lake Day 2:
We were so hopefully that there would only be one official day in Moses Lake. Perhaps a bit too hopeful. They got to the car at around 8:45am. It drove from the parking lot into the work area, so that was a good sign.
I had a fantastic interview during this time for a teaching position in Greenwich. Cross your fingers, it would be amazing!
I got off the interview to find Tom outside the motel in the shade talking on the phone with a nearby Honda dealership. Turns out the AC compressor blew. Because that went it made some gear stop turning and that made the fan/drive belt fly off and blah blah blah. The part as a whole is on back order until mid September. They are able to piece-meal it together (more expensive) and the part it still coming from Portland, so it will arrive (we hope) tomorrow morning. They said they would start work on the car as soon as possible. Let's hope we can be out of here by 10am.
In the meantime we got to explore wonderful Moses Lake. We walked next door to have breakfast at Perkins (gross). Then we walked down the main road and turned to follow the highway (fun). About a 10 minute walk later you arrive at Moses Lake State Park. The lake is nice-ish. Harper happily swam because by the morning it was HOT already. After swimming we came back to our room and Tom worked and I watched the Hills.
This needs its own paragraph. The Hills is out of control. I'm sorry but how could it continue without LC? I know I'm a bit late here, I fell behind and didn't watch this year, so I watched I dunno two or three episodes today. How did they get Kristen back??? I mean she's not even friends with them. And what is up with Lo playing such a big role after not wanting to all those other years. Is that Audrina's own house? Wow I can't believe Kristen and Justin had something. And why does Brody have to hate Stephanie Pratt so darn much? Not done yet. Heidi looks frightening. I mean I read the US weekly that outlined all of her surgery, but holy moly. She really does look scary, if I was her mom I too would be crying. Spencer is insane - not that it's anything new. I mean he really is insane. The crystals?? And the hatred of all family members. Jesus! Oh wait and was Kristen on drugs?? Wait don't tell me I'll keep watching.
We made a gourmet dinner of bread, cheese, hummus, salami, trail mix, and then took Harper for one more swim to make him pass out. End of story. Now enjoying The Office. Good night....wish us good luck in getting out early tomorrow.
