First Day-
Left Chicago around 2pm in the afternoon. We decided that we would head to either a state park in Iowa 4 hours away or 6 hours away depending on how we felt. I was feeling strong with an afternoon start (instead of an early morning one), and I drove about 4 hours or so. We breaked for a Subway stop (we are saying that this is NOT fast food...any thoughts?), and then Tom kept driving. We arrived in Anita, Iowa around 8pm and drove through the teeny town. We found the State Park easily and found a great campsite (there were a million). We set up the tent with the help of our headlights and then went for a walk around the lake. Harper went swimming - although I think it was an accident and that he just didn't realize how deep the water got.
Then we brushed our teeth (GROSS bathroom) and got into bed. We read a little bit and then went to sleep. The tent was on a slight downslope, but I kept waking up because I had slid to the bottom of my thermarest. Then when I would try to move back up, I would hit Harper who had eagerly stolen the warm spot I had previously been in.
